Keepers

Keepers are in touch with the five elements. Air. Earth. Fire. Water. Spirit. They maintain Mother Earth's environmental balance through their manipulation of their specific element.

Ethan Clark (The Shimmering Flame; A Perfect Symmetry)

At last, I know who I am. Throughout my life, stories have been handed down in our family about our mysterious past. The mystery went beyond our longevity and healing abilities. It went beyond our talent with music and words.

Then I met Brigid. My bright love. And, it was then I remembered who I am - - and who she was.

I'm an Irish Terran Singer. Through my use of words and music, I can control and cause harm to humans and Terrans. I'm also an Air Keeper. If I will it so, I can cast my song through the motes of dust that dance in the air and destroy those who hear it. But that is not who I really am. My power has always been used to protect and defend the ancient people of Ireland - - Terran and human alike. With my harp Ceol Mhor, I destroyed the creatures raised by Nimhnach hundreds of years ago, protected Dagda, Brigid's father.

It was in the far distant past that I lost Brigid, my love, but now that I have found her again, how can I share her with another? But I must put aside my desire to retake Brigid for my own. A greater challenge has presented itself. I must join forces with the very man who is wed to my love and go up against an evil I remember well from my past. An evil I had hoped had been destroyed long ago. This time I will not fail.

Claire Galliardi (Redemption)

Hello, I’m Claire Galliardi, a Spirit Keeper. Over the years, I’ve been witness to a remarkable transformation of the Terran spirit. I’'m old now, but I’ve seen how it was…and what our glorious world has become, warts and all. I am the official recordkeeper of KOTE (Keepers of the Environment) or a glorified librarian and archivist, if you will.

I will be asking questions of the Terrans you meet and recording their answers for future generations so that they might learn from our triumphs—and mistakes.

I was there in 1989 when the Book of the Sorhineth came home and the first Spirit Talisman in centuries appeared to save the Terrans from themselves.

Mirabai Kashi (Measure of a Man)

When KOTE asked me to do undercover work for them, my first impulse was to turn them down. I had my practice, helping people with spiritual difficulties, and felt I was already doing my part as a Spirit Keeper.

Most of my human clients believe I’m a very specialized psychological therapist. They aren't aware of my true powers, my ability to re-align spiritual energies that have become imbalanced. I figured I was helping the world, person by person with my counseling, but Donavan Callahan approached me personally to recruit me to work for KOTE. He made me realize there were things happening on a much larger scale that I could help with.

I still keep my hand in, working with my individual clients, but now I may be called to travel to a ‘hot spot’ anywhere in the world. When the spiritual energies are out of balance, it can be manifested in physical ways in the world—wars, earthquakes, typhoons, mass genocide. Think of the world, and the spiritual realm, as a top that must be perfectly balanced to spin true. It wobbles and falls when the balance is off.

Brigid Kawsantower (The Shimmering Flame; A Perfect Symmetry)

I am scared.

My whole world has been turned upside down. For the past fifteen years, I've been loved and protected by Gabe. He's supported me in everything. By profession, I am a teacher - - and I love my work. But now, I've found out that I'm not even human. I'm a Terran Water and Fire Keeper. Turns out, Gabe is a Terran, also, and a member of a group committed to protecting the world and all who dwell on it.

I also learned who my real father is and met a man who claims to be my lover centuries ago.

I wish we'd never made this trip to Ireland. But KOTE deciphered some entries in one of my ancestor's journals that demanded my return to Donegal at this particular time. Now, I am to fight a mad man just as I have learned what and who I am. I'm still learning how to channel my powers. How can I hope to battle someone as powerful as Nimhnach, or Lord Nolen as he calls himself? Do I even dare to attempt to refuse my destiny?

Machnamh (A Perfect Symmetry)

I am Machnamh of the Irish Terran Spirit Keepers. Long ago my kind made the decision to go undergroud after the defeat at the hands of Mil and his evil Terran advisor, Nimhnach. We became the sidhe, the fairy folk of Irish fireside tales. For thousands of years, the Spirit Keepers kept apart from other Terrans -- even our Irish brethren.

Then one day an urgent message brought me to the world above to join forces with other Terrans to fight once more against Nimhnach. This time to defeat him forever.

Amidst this fight for the safety of the world, there is also a smaller, but no less important, battle to be won -- a battle for the spirits of two young Irish Terrans: Eileen, a Fire Keeper as fair as a soft Irish day, and Casey, a noble Terran Protector and Fire Keeper. These two need my help ... my love ...to gain a perfect balance that will give them the strength in the larger struggle to protect the world.

Eileen Murray (A Perfect Symmetry)

Oh, I know I am young and untried. I never in my wildest dreams thought I was special and then, one day, I discovered I was something called an Irish Terran and a Fire Keeper.

In a short period of time, I met people who stepped from the pages of story books, and I became part of a group dedicated to keeping the world safe. But, I still felt as if something was missing in my life.

Then this cocky, red-headed soldier barged in. Casey had it all, I thought, until the moment he cried in my arms -- and I realized he also had a piece missing in his life.

Alone, we did our jobs pretty damn well, but together... with the advent of Mach into our lives as a balancing force, we became even more -- we became whole. We became the people needed to defeat a villain more monstrous than all the ogres and demons from any fairy tale I'd ever read.

Aviva Shiron (A Perfect Symmetry>

I am a Desert Terran and Singer. The Desert Terrans are among the oldest of the Terrans. I left my country and traveled to New York City to gain peace and to use my Singer abilities to heal the mind and spirits of Terrans and humans alike.

I have lived alone, save for my beloved pet Khat. My life was calm and fulfilling.

When Ethan, Brigid and Gabe entered my life, peace fled. Ba'al, an ancient evil well known to my people, is back and is once more set upon destroying the earth. This time a powerful Destroyer is his henchman. He's gathered his minions to assist him in upsetting the delicate balance of the world. Defeating Ba'al and his allies has fallen upon the shoulders of a few dedicated Terrans. And upon me.

I can only pray my powers are strong enough to help put an end to this malevolent creature and his ultimate goals.
