Homo sapiens and cousins of the Terrans. Not many
know of the existence of the Terrans, but those that
do have been sworn to secrecy and work alongside
their preternatural brethren to protect the Earth.

 The
most important thing in life is keeping safe and that
means flying under the radar. Don’t get involved
in something too big or you’ll bring the cops
down on your head. If you keep it small time, you’re
golden. Me, I’m an entrepreneur and have my hand
in a number of deals all the time. I’ve been
living on my own for a long time and know how to get
by. Never finished high school, but I’ve got
street smarts and a kinda sixth sense that helps me
read situations. If I sense things getting squirrelly,
I cut my losses and fade away. That’s what’s
kept me alive.
People who try and be heroes are idiots. I look out
for me and that’s it. I’d never risk my
own safety for anybody. Only a complete moron would
do that. There’s nobody in the world I’d
stick my neck out for. And there’s sure as hell
nobody who’d do that for me.
Trust is for suckers. Look at those sheep taken in
by that new age preacher, Ray Brody. He’s big
time. He’s figured out a way to part thousands
of fools from their money without breaking a single
law. Hell, they just listen to his babble then hand
it over. The man’s slick. Gotta admire a con
like that.
And the preacher knows which buttons to push with
his talk. Everybody wants to believe in love and peace
and all that sweetness and light bullshit. Listening
to his TV commercials sometimes, even I find myself
getting suckered. Then I remember I’m not stupid!
Love is for ignorant saps. There’s no such thing.
My perfect evening is a few drinks, a game of pool,
a ball game on TV and a tumble with a hot chick to
cap off the night. It’s the best a man can hope
for. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Mark Winbolt (Redemption)
 Mark
Winbolt is Donovan Callahans’s right-hand man
in Trocadero Security. A former Marine, Mark was hired
by Donovan as soon as he had mustered out of the service.
He realized Donovan was special from day one, but
only became aware of Donovan’s Terran status
once he had been made a partner.
